Hey all. Been hanging around here for a while now and am really interested in getting to know how to do some of this stuff. I'm a total newb, but want to learn quite badly. I'm particularly interested in how to build a nice preamp or compressor. If anyone could point me to some resources for beginners, on how to go about starting one of these projects, I'd appreciate it. I don't expect to learn it all in one day, but really want to get the idea of things as soon as I can. Again, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

At random and in no particular order,
Look for links and web sites :

John Hardy
Fred Forssell
JLM Audio
Gyraf ... (that's Jakob our mod right here)
John Klett
ESP ... Elliott Sound Products
Seventh Circle ... Tim Ryan
Dave Jahnsen ... LA2a ... there are more out there

As for actual projects

G9
Green-Pre
JLM99x
Project 2
N72

SSLcomp from Jakob ... must have ... too simple and too cheap not to
LA2a ... then look for CJ's T4B page
G1176
keep your eyes open for a new kit that might compress and might be coloured purple

My heart is still with Group DIY and if you find the web page get what you can, while you can. I will be disassembling it and even before the new place is ready.

More importantly stay with the LAB and read all you can. So many of your answers are already here.

we love our DIY .... period

I just had to do an edit:
This page may go very soon
http://recording.org/users/kev/discrete_op-amps.htm
it could help get things into perspective with respect to Project 1
and likewise this will go soon too
