I'm laying out some front panels. What font seems to work best.
Right now I'm using Helvetica, but if there is something better?
I'm going after the 1176 look.
This will be used in a silkscreen process.
Any Input

Thanks
RonL

I like old school fonts but are sometimes harder to machine. Old english and a font called esquivel which is also called esquire and looks like the old esquiremag logos. But thats my taste

Potrzebie (sp?) doesn't really lend itself to mechanical engraving, though... It should work just fine with laser engraving, silkscreening, lazertran, et cetera, though.

Peace,
Al.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but... in Frontpanel Designer 3.3 I would like to import my own logo on the front panel design, but all it will allow is a HPGL file ?

What's the best way to convert into this file, is their any specific programs for this ?

For the "real" Gyraf stuff, I'm using GravoGraph Font#1100.12

you'll need a sans-serif font of some sort to make a readable frontpanel. For plotter-based software/drawing/engraving, you will need "single-strike" fonts.

Hey jetboatguy,

as far as I know you need a vector program that will export to HPGL (.plt) such as corel draw. There is loads of info from Frank (NRG) here just do a search.

This does mean however that you have to re-draw your logo in corel if its not already in a format it can read.

If for some reason its a raster graphic you can try this converter I found the other day, been meaning to post a link.

http://www.raster-vector.com/

It will convert raster to hpgl vector and will do the first 5-10 (can't remember) conversions free then it stops working until you authorize. That might be a pain but if all you've got to do is import your logo then this will give you a few attempts to get it right.

If you make a new raster image, make it larger than you need and at a very high res, like 600DPI....outline only might be best.

I tried importing some images to FPD like the cokeacola logo etc and they looked pretty damn good on a panel in software, but only if they are large enough to not pixelate during conversion. Didn't try it on a finished panel yet.

To do a two-tone logo like yours you'd have to draw the coloured parts seperately and then reassemble in FPD so you can control the fill colour.

I like a font style that almost has no "style".
From Front Panel Designer I go for DIN17 single stroke.
It's totally basic, block letters very easy to read.
For me it has a kind of "no bullshit" feel and look that I want for labelling controls.
I use stylized fonts for my logo however.

Hey!

i got the Rev.A bundle from Hairball Audio a few days ago.
I really like the Front Panel but i think a white font would make it more sexy. But i don´t know how to print, spay or stick it
i want it to look like this one:
