led meters for my hamptone jfet

hello
id like to put two led meters (signal at -12db and clip) for the input of my jfet mic pre (tapeop hamptone) is it as simple as i hope?

my rnp has them and they serve their purpose very well.

anyone? i also have a cheap VU meter but am not sure where to put it.

2 LEDS would be ideal one green and one red.

i think i get you. turn the signal into a dc voltage to push the LEDs. any ideas on equating the signal dB to the various led voltages/clipping?

Have a look at the www.rane.com site for schematics. IIRIC their standalone small mic-pre (MS1A ?) has the two-LED-two-opamp circuit Kubi was talking about.
