Ever tried the Akai MFC42?
IMHO the best filterbank soundwise and it was sold for 250EUR before it got discontinued about a year (or two or three?) ago.
Full MIDI-support in both directions, a stereo and a additional mono path which could be used in series to achieve 48db/Oct filters.
LPF, HPF, BPF, Notch, EGs, LFOs, Distortion, Panning and so on...
It lacks definitely the color of the Sherman, but if you look for something cleaner, the MFC might be a good choice.

I never really cared for the Shermans sound actualy, but it was alot of fun, alot of control. I remember the Akai one, but that is about it, never tried one, or even heard one as far as I know. Midi has pretty much left my life these days, modular is the way to go, I want CVs everywhere. I spent to much time useing old Roland gear like the S550 and R70, they pretty much killed any desire i have to even think about midi. I sure hope roland has either gotten better at implementing midi or at least better at writeing their manuals. The S550 Filter would be one really worth cloneing, man that was an odd one, I miss those filters quite alot. Not really sure how easy it would be to clone. I think they might have been all programmed. For some reason I never opened the S550, I think thats the only thing i have owned and not opened.
Remeber those old Roland manuals, everything came with 3 or 4 different Volumes, plain brown cover line art, all of the information buried in riddles and hints and everything concerning midi left to a few pages of charts in the back of the manual, A good chunk of the midi wrong. how did Roland make it through those years? If some makes me a VCF/VCA/Envelope you would have jsut about anything of mine.
