The Emulator II use this ssm too

You're an ass Steve :green:

Has the Mutator always been in production since release? Whenever I see them in studios the owners seem to think they're not made anymore - "that's a classic there mate, they don't build 'em anymore".

I can't see how you could compare the Sherman and Mutator, they couldn't have a more different sound if they tried, it'd be like comparing Chablis to Claret, impossible. At some point I will get a 'Tator to compliment the Sherman (Herman does make a funny manual doesn't he?).

Dave, I've seen Shermans in the UK new for £375 Sterling. S/hand they are usually around £225-275 Sterling. I really wouldn't bother trying to reverse engineer one, I really don't think it would be fun, but I may be wrong.

I should add that a pal has a quad Sherman for sale at the moment.

shut up Jus!!! :green:
Yeah they've been in production since '95. Shops just don't tend to stock them so the rumour starts that you can't get them! The dirth of 2045s is a very real prob though!
Read: transistor matching fest!!!!

What everyone's not calmouring to design a group DIY one? You can check out this site that has a lot of filters on it, including the Korg MS20. The Frostwave resonator is supposed to be copied directly from it. There is also a version with MODs.

Question: What would you use MIDI for in a filterbank? Is it to program sweeps and such or what else?

Ever tried the Akai MFC42?
IMHO the best filterbank soundwise and it was sold for 250EUR before it got discontinued about a year (or two or three?) ago.
Full MIDI-support in both directions, a stereo and a additional mono path which could be used in series to achieve 48db/Oct filters.
LPF, HPF, BPF, Notch, EGs, LFOs, Distortion, Panning and so on...
It lacks definitely the color of the Sherman, but if you look for something cleaner, the MFC might be a good choice.

I never really cared for the Shermans sound actualy, but it was alot of fun, alot of control. I remember the Akai one, but that is about it, never tried one, or even heard one as far as I know. Midi has pretty much left my life these days, modular is the way to go, I want CVs everywhere. I spent to much time useing old Roland gear like the S550 and R70, they pretty much killed any desire i have to even think about midi. I sure hope roland has either gotten better at implementing midi or at least better at writeing their manuals. The S550 Filter would be one really worth cloneing, man that was an odd one, I miss those filters quite alot. Not really sure how easy it would be to clone. I think they might have been all programmed. For some reason I never opened the S550, I think thats the only thing i have owned and not opened.

Remeber those old Roland manuals, everything came with 3 or 4 different Volumes, plain brown cover line art, all of the information buried in riddles and hints and everything concerning midi left to a few pages of charts in the back of the manual, A good chunk of the midi wrong. how did Roland make it through those years? If some makes me a VCF/VCA/Envelope you would have jsut about anything of mine.

There is some info on the Lovetone Meatball, a very full featured but under the hood a surprisingly simple envelope filter pedal, at www.diystompboxes.com. I believe a derivative design should be a pretty cheap build, but also very powerful and versatile. I believe the original is mono, so if you want stereo, that's up to you to figure.

Kubi,

ave you tried the plugin version of the AkaiMFC42?

I could be mistaken here, but i think i saw it somewhere in someones studio...

Hi,

I would like to built a EDP WASP filter clone and a EMS Synth A diode filter clone for a modular set up. Adamasd posted this link (see below) for an EDP Wasp filter clone with Envelope and LFO, but the link doesn't work anymore. Does anybody know where I can find the info (schematics) for this. Thanks in advance!

Where did you find a Synthi A filter schematic? Unless something has channged the one floating about the internet is flawed and does not work. I would be interested in seeing what you got.

It's recommended to always bookmark my main page

and not the sub-pages (which have changed several
times, from t-online to oldcrow to heim.at).

Let me know when you find broken links, please.

Wasp Filter: Now that the CA3080 has become obsolete,
I should mention that LM13600, LM13700 and NE5571
work perfect in this circuit.
