keyboard volume pedal

Can some one tell me how a volume pedal is wired to a stereo jack. Presumably it is just a pot in the pedal but which pin of the pot goes to which pole on the jack??

on my kenton controller:
the 2 exterior pot points go to tip and sleeve.
the moving value (mid of the pot) goes to the ring of the jack
