ok here is the rev 1, now the holes are right.

Hi,

I somewhat copied the PCB by 12afael but made it a bit bigger, made jumper paths shorter, most capacitors can be 5 mm or 7,5 mm and solder pads are also bigger and the "switch" pad is now on the edge, too.
Ground is not completed yet (as you can see at the ground line between "send" and "out").

I tried to avoid parallel paths and right angles as possible but I don't know if that is really necessary on a sidechain PCB.

The picture is a bit big, so I insert it as an external link:

http://www.sdiy.de/images/outboard/gssl-sidechain/Gssl-Sidechain-Thrust-Filter-pre2.gif

Please note C22 in my schematic has the wrong value: 150nF should be a 47uF electrolytic.

This is my second PCB, so don't hit me if it's not perfect. It would be nice if you can state out what can be made better.

Has anyone already built Rafael's PCB?

Edit: Schematic from clintrubber:

hi
i ve build 2 gssl with "clint" pcb and they work as they should.
see my post http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=209399&highlight=#209399.

audioforge

hey audioforge, nice infos on the level calibration! Did you make the PCB with sonicwarrior's or neeno's layout? or did you breadboard it? Have you been happy with the thrust filter results? So many questions, but I'm going back to do some mods on my GSSL and have been thinking of adding some more "hidden" positions on the sidechain filter rotary switch for the two thrust modes as provided by clintrubber

cheers, Marten
I must admit that my board still need some caps.
Which caps are missing?

I only miss 2 electrolytics as power supply decoupling and I think two of the 100ns should bypass them and the other 2 should go from V+ to V- instead of the current ground to V+ or V- thing.

Edit: I added the 2 electrolytics but didn't change the 100ns, part numbers are changed to match the schematic from clintrubber (I did this to check the PCB).
http://www.sdiy.de/images/outboard/gssl-sidechain/Gssl-Sidechain-Thrust-Filter-pre3.gif

Would be nice if someone with more experience could check if this version is correct and whether the 100n are ok this way or if it is better to change them to have 2 between V+ and V- of each Dual OpAmp and the other ones for bypassing the electrolytics. One of the 100ns is already near the electrolytics but I can't find a nice place for the second one for the negative power rail. :?

"My" layout was new so he couldn't have use it.
(And I didn't post the source files or Gerber files)

As he names the trimmers R4 & R7 I think he used Rafael's layout.

thanks for the infos!

Rafael, any chance you could load your circuit layout on the groupdiy space on twinx again? It probably got lost with the recent crash... that'd be great!

hi
trimmers numbers are referenced as raphael layout.
i "re"work raphael layout pcb to match a pcb i had and match ssl width dimension board too, plus some minor changes: components sizes and in out pins placements etc...
my pcb layout is not in pdf but .lay (sprintlayout)
if someone can convert the file to pdf i can send him the file(if raphael and clint. agree).
BUT i don t want the layout used to be sold as pcb kit!
it should be host as free download so anyone could use it to etch his own pcb. that is the original lab diy(and old RO forum) ethic ,even more and more people here have forgoten that rule.
audioforge

audioforge can you print a PS. file out of the sprint layout program? If so send it to me and I can convert it to PDF at work. Have you tested your layout? If so I'd love to give it a go for my first PCB etch. Thanks, Marten

marttie what do you mean by ps file? i can save as .lay or export as gerber gif bmp emf.
could you explain.
could you then convert the file as pdf for the community? if raphael and clint agree i can host the file on twinx groupdiy......

I used SprintLayout, too. :thumb:

AFAIK there is no way to directly produce a PDF or PS file
but the program can export to GIF if that helps.

here is the file with the pcb, layout, component list and description.

the PCB is ok, I just need some 150nF, 15nF, 82nF to finish the board and test it on my gssl.

Ah, ok, a misunderstanding. :thumb:

I hope you don't mind that I copied your PCB.
In the meantime a few changes have been made,
so it looks a bit different.

always is good to have more options , so if you use my board as base or you improve it is completly ok for me, I think if people here work as a team we could have many more projects to construct for example some westlake DIboxes (pucho we are waiting! )

Hi!

here is the file with the pcb, layout, component list and description.

http://twin-x.com/groupdiy/displayimage.php?pos=-291

When I open this I only find the schematics and the layout on one page. There's no component list or description. Does a partslist exist for this layout?
I've only managed to find a list for Stephen's Highpass Filter.

Thanks,
Miska

There IS a partlist in that pdf
Can take a while before all on the page is displayed, the partlist comes last when starting up acrobat.

Bye,

Peter
That's it! I had to open it with Acrobat Reader. Otherwise my mac would only show the images...well, now it works.

Thanks Peter!
Correct, the analog filter circuit works default only for Win98SE & XP. When there's a Mac within 5 meters of the PCB the 10dB/dec slopes will revert to either 0 or 20dB/dec

Enjoy!

Peter

Kidding aside, I thought pdf was such a robust format. Uncool to hear that still a lot can go not as was intended...

I made it! I stuffed the prototype completely!

Ok, it is damn ugly (didn't had the right trimmers and the 1N5 capacitors were way too big, but ...

sidechain-filter-proto-front.jpg

sidechain-filter-proto-side.jpg

Now I only need a working GSSL to test it.
