My friend is loaning me his ADX-90 drum mic, that we believe has a blown elecret element. I'd like to buy and wire up a new one, but I've never bought one of these before.

Since its clip is designed especially for drum use, I want to get an element tailored to drums (as the old one was). An obvious factor is that the old one didn't stand up to the SPL of drums. I hope to locate an element that is similiar in frequency response, yet more durable in SPL (and hopefully overall better quality). Can anyone point me in a good direction?

Here is the original manual on the mic:

Here is someone's post on usenet that comments on the inferiority of the original element:

"The ADX90 has gained a reputation as being a poor choice for close micing
drums, owing to it's inibility to handle the SPL. They can be purchased on
eBay quite cheaply. Use either the ADX20d, MicroD, or D4. (I switched from
D4 to ADX20d owing to space problems on some kits (they won't fit between
the rack toms and the cymbals, even when using right-angle XLRs). "

Thanks :)
