Hello,

I am looking in to replacing some 5534 IC's in the ouput section of my master section( Amek M1000 console - close to Amek m2500 but simpler)

probably just the output driver section ... but perhaps the master insert send as well...

supply voltages are the same ( +/- 18v) and I am wiring up plugin board with socket legs to insert the 918-s in place of the 5534's......

have very beefy upgraded power supplies so additional current draw will not be an issue .... but looking to get any thoughts ... suggestions etc.

..... how will 918 take to feedback RC already in place for 5534, gain ... etc

Any thoughts welcome.

can scan schematic if anyone is interested

Thanks!!

Are you sure you mean the 918 and not the 990? I guess you have seen the documentation on my page: 918_documentation.pdf

I don't see any particular difficulties replacing NE5534s with 918s other than I don't know where you find space for them in your console... But without seeing the schematic, it's hard to tell for sure.

Thanks for the quick reply! : )

it is a 918 ( the earlier one) have 4 of them to spare and seems like I will have enough space on my module to mount at least a couple of the 918's close to the 5534's I am removing... ( daughter card wired up with the 918 on it going to IC socket

Do you think having an inch or two between 918 and 5534 socket will be a problem?

Probably not--but carefully check for oscillation after the change. Do the opamps have bypass caps "on board"? If not you might need to put them on the daughter board.

I will have to check for the bypass caps... but I believe there is a 150pf from output back to + IN.

33pf on feedback network.

don't think there is one on the 918 so... you think I would need an external one when I connect the 918 if there is not one present on the current 5534?

I guess there is a bypass cap for the NE5534, but it might be better to include a pair of 100 nF polyester caps from the supply rails to ground on your daughter board close to the amp, just to be save. Or if your daughter board does not include a ground connection, a single 100 nF between the rails does the trick.
