Hello List-members
Sorry for that OT...
Friend got a def 828 and wants to get it back to live.
The fried Chip is the 40pin ( or so) smd smallpitch Chipdirectly at the Firewire-Port.
It is so burned that it´s not possible to read what Chip it is.hmmm
He would be able to fix it, since he knows someone with a rework-station,
so the bottleneck is the reading on top of that chip.
Now the rude question if someone that uses a 828 could open those 9 screews, and look inside.
Would be a big kindness, the gui is also my electronic-guru (severall GHz=DC for him(-: )
Manny Thanks in Advance

Hi Anton aus germany,

I do not use the 828 but I wonder that if the chip is so fried, the other parts of the cirquit are still operational? And maybe replacing the ship will not take away the cause of the defect in the first place. Maybe their is a risk to fry a second one...

Maybe if your friend is quick he can jump on this opportunity

Still 3 hours to go..... tic tac tic tac.........

My 2 cents

Hello Geert
I think the of the damage is a wrong plugged Firewire-cable.
That was the way i got my 2408Mk2.
Changed the tranciverchip, and some resistors...
Up to work till now.
The Problem in tis Unit is that the tranciver is bilt into a bigger Chip.
The Chip with no name after burnup....
Thanks for your Replie.
The ebaydeal looks fine (-: tic, tic

Greetings
Anton

Contact MOTU, or the retailer where you bought it. MOTU have a repair/replacement policy (even out of warranty) for a flat fee of $50. At least they used to...

Many thanks tommypiper / Jakobsvin

Manny thanks for the Picture. It says all (-:
Maby my friend looked to fast or he has a different revision of the board.
I´ll ask him, hehe..

The Motu-tip comes also very handy,
Sorry, don´t know about the ad-converter. If it´s a SMD it will not be to easy without the right tools......

thanks for helping out

Hey guys, I got a guy here at work having 828 problems.
He wants to know what software you are using and what kind of system.
Downlaods?
Thanks!

Hello Jakobsvin

Regarding the AD-Stage my friend wrote:

The AD-Converter Chips are SMDs.
But normaly the OPAMPS will blow out first if there is a external reason.

The AD-DA-converter used is a Crystal CS4223 in 28pin half pitch SMD case,
realy nothing for a newbe to solder out.
http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/pro/detail/P8.html

What is amasing me is the absence of a power supply regulation for the OPAMPs,
Motu is using the unregulated DC of the transformer output ( +9, -11Volts).

Regarding Software i don´t have a idea.
On Mac it´s Deck ( Motu), Digital Performer, Logic-Pro( Apple), maby Cubase...

The Best

@tonfisch: ok, I think I'll send it back to Motu then.

@CJ: You can find a driver at motu.com, but you will have to create a user account to get it. Remember to install the driver before you plug in the interface.

No, you just lay down heavy amounts of liquid lead and tin around
the whole chip until it's 1/8 inches high, then slide it off.
Then find a girl with small hands, good eyes, beautiful legs, thin waste,
firm, pouting...... never mind!
