GR on old 1176 doesn't work

I have an old "6000" series (post 73') 1176LN that works fine all except for the GR VU. +4 and +8 work fine but when I engage GR the needle slowly goes to the bottom and just barely moves.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Also I hear you guys talking about adjusting the "bias" on these and similar units. What is this and what does it control.

Sorry for the newbie questions... I am long time engineer just now getting into DIY!

Try reading the manual - iirc, it has some good suggestions for troubleshooting..
