Any porn or any knowledge about it? trafo or trafoless? Curiosity bites me when I look at it.

Just wait for Keith's 3 page description in a little bit.. :green:
Should be straight out of K series console. Traffoless pre etc....blablabla..
Don't know much about it.. sorry..
take care

We've got a couple at work. I'll try to pop the top and snoop around. I've got the manuals, but I don't think there are any schematics included  , though I'll double-check.

Tom

Schemo or a brief description of circuit would be great. Just wanted to figured out why a friend of mine love so much this unit....

9k mic pre. -Someday I must get around to making a DIY version available for everyone... right after I get my memory fixed, perhaps.

Switchable E/G EQ. I've posted a schematic somewhere of the switchable topology, but I won't be making a DIY version available... Search constant bandwidth for more information... the designer Andy Millar also chimed in... -Where IS Andy, BTW...

The compressor is similar to the E series but they stopped using dbx/THAT chips, and went to SSM ICs. The result is a switchable quasi-peak/RMS sensing, which most users don't even realise is there and leave in RMS, from my experience...

-BR, what percentage of users would you say suddenly think: "I know... -Let's try peak sensing"? -Second question: How many first-time users you encounter even understand the difference?

It's all transformerless, as all pretty much SSL stuff is these days.

Fabio, the sound is NOT in the iron in this case, the sound is in the very clever design, which does exactly 'what it says on the box', with nothing else added and nothing else taken away.

Nice, steady, predictable... not something which I'd kill for, but VERY usable... -so much so that if you have 80 channels, the sound doesn't "add-up" and make you hate it. It doesn't overpower the music, it's quiet, it's just very, very VERY nice.

Keith

Hey Keith, cool! I get the picture, thanks a lot.

:guinness: :guinness: :guinness: :guinness:

BTW, speaking 9k micpre, that one you made available a while ago have nothing to do with the one inside this box?

cheers!

What...?

Me???

-WHo the...?

Wait, I need to get my memory fixed!

Here are some pictures I took inside of an X_Logic channelstrip (I hope my links work!).

OMG, are PCBs also needing 'tiling' now ? :?
(see the idle dots at the top of the last pic)

It's becoming more & more a real PITA when designing ICs in newer technologies. End of OT, thanks for posting those pics.

Man.. you got it right. to answer the first question: almost nill. To answer the second: NONE. and trust me guys, I know this first hand. If only you all know where I work you'd understand why he asked and why I can answer the question... :green:

I wish we got some of those for a test drive. Maybe we could give those guys a call and get some down here, huh Keith??

I wonder if the 2018 goes dead as much as in the 9000. They are good for roughly one dead every two weeks in a 5 year old 9072J I have been caring for. Tom, you might want to have one and a 18 pin socket on hand. It is visible above the lovely garden hose in the last pic.
Mike

Yeah, it's funny about those SSM2018s. We have two J9000 consoles, both around 8 years old. One of them pops a 2018 every couple of weeks like you mentioned, but the other one, which is a little older, has never had one go. I wonder if there was a design change along the way with the chips (or with the console?), or a funny production run or something. I keep plenty of spares (and sockets) around.
