you know that scene at the end of Pulp Function where they finally open the briefcase and all you see is this mystical golden glow? I now know what was inside :green:

Imagine strolling into a session with that gear in a padded briefcase and casually opening it up, watching everyone's jaw's drop...

That is super awesome man. :thumb: :thumb:

I really love the case you used for the preamps, and I want to do something similar for my own API-style pres. Sans the handle, though. I want to be able to stack different devices on top of each other.

Beautiful job on both the mics and the pres! :thumb:

Thanks guys :thumb:

The cases are from Monacor - they are pretty expensive - but worth it, I think..
All the ingraving is done by hand using mr. Erland's old Gravograph - hense the Gyraf look(wich I totally adore).

The capsules are still up for debate, but currently both have a Soundking CK-12'ish capsule and I'm liking it a lot.
I will try a Neumann style capsule over the weekend, to hear the difference.
This is my first time building mics, so it's very exiting trying different things out.

Very nice idea, astrovic  I gotta get me a briefcase for this stuff :green:

Hey Black Dog, when will you post some audio samples. Is it possible to hear some samples made through your G7 and some other famous well known mic so that we hear how well does it compare. I recently had a session with 3 BA preamps and 3 mics. The results were very different and very interesting. One of the mics was a MXL but with replaced tube circuit and frankly I am still not sure if the MXL wasn't the best sounding mic from the test. The other two were Rode K2 and Soundelux 195U. The sound test files always tell more than words

Hi Purusha,

I must have missed your thread with soundclips from your tests - got a link?

If I get the chance to try the mics out in a proper environment, I will post some testfiles, for sure :thumb:
:thumb: Awesome! And so handy.

Just wondering: Do you have any hum from the mains transformer so close to the api circuit?
Danke sehr :guinness:

I just tried terminating the input with a 150Ohm resistor and with gain cranked to the max the hum is at about -60dB..

nice!
i would probably drill a small hole into the plastic/silicone to lead through the wires from the capsule to the circuit. two reasons for that: 1. the wires can be shorter and 2. the thin wires cannot be damaged from putting the chassis into the tube.

Good points, Max, thanks :thumb:

I will do that once I figure out what capsule I am going to use.

Black Dog, I am curious if you have a BOM with total cost for your G7 project but with C12 clone capsule. I am warming up to build one too but first I need to be sure what quality level mic will I get by making it.

Sorry, but i don't keep track of my DIY expenses and most of the parts are stuff I had lying around or nicked from Jakob's place

I tried out a 32mm "neumann"-style capsule last night and it sounded very dull and two dimensionel compared til the "CK-12"-style capsule..

This morning i made a case for the mics and psu -->
