Somewhere doing audio stuff.
Anybody ever considered doing a summing mixer like the Neve 8816, Dangerous, SPL, or any of the (seemingly) dozens of others out there? Seems to me that would be an easy and very rewarding DIY project.

What is a mixer? Does it make noisesssses? Will it make my recordings sound better, I'm a noob and don't know how this all works?

Sorry... I couldn't resist :green:

No offense but the search function on this site leaves a lot to be desired.

yeah theres some issues with the search BUT...

First check the Meta-Meta http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=16013

then use the search

The Meta is always updated by the users so its pretty damn good.

I guess I should have done that. I tried searching on "analog summing DAW" and the meta didn't show up in that search. I'll go there the next time I have a big idea.
Someone here is (or was) selling a PCB based on one of the passive mixer schematics I posted. You might wanna look him up.
Thanks for the tip. Right now I'm ass-deep in Fred Forssell's discussion of summing bus design, http://www.forsselltech.com/summing buss.htm

Since a simple passive mixer isn't challenging enough it looks like I'm going to go for a balanced, active design. I'll post some info about my project once it's past the vaporware stage.

Don't be sad NYD

I love your passive mixer!

& your passive eq....

I'm sure I'll love many other projects you have posted on this form

There's so much summing info on this forum right now...Really hard to NOT find it.

For example ....

Oops sorry, that's mixer info.

Actually, the ones I've looked at could use some work IMHO. What are the three things you need to build a "clone"? 1) a schematic, 2) a bill of materials, 3) if you're going to use a circuit board (prefabbed or not) you need a component layout. On the half a dozen or so projects I've researched so far those three things are scattered far and wide. The GSSL docs are pretty good, but there are no component designators. I understand that the density of the board precludes printing them legibly on it but it would still be a big help during other phases of the project.

Another case in point: where is the Manely Pultec project mentioned on the Pultec meta? I bought a couple of Purusha's cases with the intention of building a couple of them but there's no schematic, no BOM, no board layout. I had to email him to get any info. (Thanks Purusha, you're awesome.)

I don't know what's up with the egos this seemingly innocuous post has stirred but I'm really only interested in building quality pro-audio equipment. Take everything else to the Brewery please, so you don't clog the already overworked search engine with useless junk. Thanks.
