Hello guys,

For 2007 I'll have two main DIY projects.... the 1081 and the sontec EQ. With regard to the 1081 there's is plenty of information available, but for the sontec EQ, I have the feeling that bits and pieces are missing. I'm going to make a website with every imaginable buildinginformation I can get of both, but mainly of the sontec.

Is there a possibility that you guys could send me all the needed info and schematics so I can bundle them and make them easily attainable for everyone. I'll include links for case building.... bom lists, alternative components, allready build units from DIY members, problemsolving... circuitanalysis and while I'm at it detailed testprocedures for the sontec itself.

I hope there is intrest in this as I'm willing to put a lot of time in making this site and want to take into account every input that you guys can give me.

In a later stage there might be a possibility to do groupbuys on this site from the different people that make the pcb's cases,.... I'm not willing to make money out of this AT ALL. My intention is just to make this difficult project a little more of the shelf for all of us by giving it a little more structure. What's in it for me is just a great learning experience and a twoway stream of input to the community, instead of it allways being a lot who want and only a few that give.

The good thing is that I'm still learning a lot about electronics and will therefor give very detailed description of the buildingproces, schematics (with the help of you guys  ). That way it will not only be a drool website for gearporn but also very educational for most of the newbies that frequent this site.

All I can send for now......lotsa positive vibes.... :thumb:

Edit: I assume you've seen the schematic on Gyraf's site.....

Hey Geert,

Find the site of Fabio Baumann, he's very active in this forum and has already a lot of infos about the Sontec eq.
I know that several people over here have built the sontec Eq.

Cheers and good luck :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Hi Patrick,

Thx for the link. I'm in the fase of getting all the info I can get my hands on. But a lot of the links seem dead so I'm at the mercy of the generosity of this forum  With regards to sontec..... since we will have to use other parts.... it's not really a sontec is it..... it will more be like the son of my tech. :green: Anyway people.... please send info too [email protected]

Geert

Hi Purusha,

I'm getting some schematics that have not been posted here before but have to redraw them before posting, but anyway, I'll need a link to your website, or I could dedicate a page on mine for your cases if you don't have a site. Anyway I would like to have a high resolution pic of your avator and other contact data such as paying methods accountinformation and such to put on my site.

I heard "Chris Muth" of Dangerous Music seems to have reverse engineered the HS2000 used in the sontec 430. Would he be willing to share the schematic? I don't know him personally so I have the feeling I'm not in a position to ask him for a HS2000 schematic runover :? . Is there anybody here that can say Chris instead of mister Muth ... and ask for the parts content of that black box.

What about the guy that had a broken HS1000 amp? Has it been reverse engineered or is it still waiting inevitability to be disected with brutal TLC.

I have read that apart from the HS1000 the design of the eq is pretty basic 70ties style and that the mojo is in the HS1000.... Is there any need for making this project with substitute opamps? What opamps that you know off use 28V and are worth considering?

Kind regards,

Geert

Hi guys,
these are all the files that I have for Fabios boards. I think they are straight out of Fabio's website:

Amp section schem:

Filter section schem:
http://www.braudio.com/forumfiles/sontec/SONTEC_filter_sch1.pdf

Amp section parts list:
http://www.braudio.com/forumfiles/sontec/SONTEC_amp_partilist.pdf

Filter section parts list:
http://www.braudio.com/forumfiles/sontec/SONTEC_filter_partilist.pdf

And here is a BOM that I made, which is not confirmed yet. It would be great if any of you guys could look over it and let me/us know about any discrepancies.

Hi BR,

Thx for the info. I'm already in the process of designing the website. But the flow information is a little under expectations. Hope that when the website in online.... people will start sending more info and pictures of the real thing and of the clones allready made.

Do we have any data on this opamp? Slew-rate, noise, offset, voltage or current feedback?

There ain't infinite completely different ways to build operational amplifiers...

I don't remember who, but someone has built one of these using Fetbloaks and supposetly turned out great.
Maybe we should look into that and take advantage of Fabio's group buy.
The hardest part to find for Fabio's board is the dual 100k rev log pot.
The boards are set up for Bourns 91 series, but minimum quantity is 500.
So if 20 people were interested in building these, I could organize a groupbuy for all the pots. We would only have to come to terms with the part number.

anyways, this maybe a topic for a new thread. but I'll see if there is any interest first.

I spoke to Fabio the other day and he said this to me:

For real Sontec go for FET opamp in the AMP board and NE5534 in the filter
boards, that is what they used. :)
Go for ICs... they are cheap and do the work very well. Dont bother to spend
tons of cash fitting discretes there.
