Hi Group,

Depending on what way the thematic organizing of this forum turns out in the poll, we may need people to volunteer to being the "meta-keepers" for the various subjects.

For now, I am keeping the "META - SSL Clone posts" and the "META - The 1176 project".

I don't think that more than one or two metas can be updated by one user, so we'll need to delegate this.

If this seems to be a big responsibility, remember that even though you're gone for a period of time, the system allows other members to post pointers in their replies, and thus keep the meta updated.

Items that would benefit from metas could be:

- Discrete opamps - Tk@halmi
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=281

- Integrated Circuits - VacuumVoodoo

- Neve projects - Ian MacGregor
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=304

- API projects - Bauman
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=263

- LA2A - Scenaria

- Microphone technology - including G7 - zebra50
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=256

- Pultec and passive EQ's - Viitalahde
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=253

- PRR's vari-mu/vari-mu in general - Michael Krusch
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=249

- Audio transformer info - Cjenrick

- Newbie explanations - Mark Burnley

- Modding existing gear

- Schematic collection links - Kubi
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=287

- Tools, test equipment and workshop tricks - Mark Burnley

- 1176 - gyraf
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=155

- SSL-Clone - gyraf
http://www.groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=110

..to name a few - there's many possibilities - it's up to you and your interests. We should not, though, have too-narrow scopes in these metas - we would risk having too many of them - cluttering overwiew again..

A single thread can easily be interesting to multiple metas.
Try to keep the pointers in order of (subjective) relevancy.

..just a thought..

Hi Jakob,

I'm willing to take on the Newbie explanations and Tools Test equipment etc.

I think this will work well.

Mark

Edit> We just got the 2000'th post- woohoo!

Jakob,
As I probably hit this site a great deal more than others, I can take on as many as you like, but as I haven't got a clue what you're talking about, you'll have to tutor me.

Hi Peter,

Look at this example:

We've discussed it here also:

Mark - Thanks! I put you up for those for now..!

Jakob,
So just adding links within the meta, with the odd bit of tidying.....I think even I could do that. :thumb:

I could help on API projects, I'm already spending a lot of time in that one right now...

cheers!

I could do the microphone stuff if no-one else - am very busy this week but I could get on to it next week.
Gus or Marik would also be good candidates

...perhaps there should be a member-identification section... either as part of the member profile (i.e. written by the member themselves) or on a meta-thread (i.e. written by someone independant...)

for example:

Peter Purpose:
Londoner, truly loves his DIY. Though he professes little understanding, he knows more than he cracks on. Still occasionally confused by the similarities between components and confectionery: e.g. Resistors/raspberries, Capacitors/chocolate, Ground-planes/ground almonds. Short of stature and hairy of foot, known nefariously as "the Hobbit".

Seriously, some form of FAQ or even a casually-maintained reference database would be righteous! -We could perhaps shorten some common and otherwise beaten-to-death threads early on, by linking to the relevant section of the FAQ.

Whaddayathink?

Guys this is JUST GREAT!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Could kiss you all! :green:

cheers!

Wouldn't it be easier and less cluttered if we could make the meta threads little button thingies above the threads? Then you want 1176-you hit 1176 and there are the archived discussions...seems cleaner and then you wouldn't have to scroll down into the depths to find new stuff.

Maybe an extra forum, only for the metas (the metas will point to the normal forum). And the metas should be only writable for the volunteer and read-only for the rest, to keep the metas clean.

Jakob,

I would like to take on Discrete Opamps.
It has been my focus of interest for the last seven months.
