I've finished my pair of G1176's.

They work and work well, right outta the gate (well, after calibrating....).

Thanks to Jakob for making this design available!

Whoa! Check this action. I've got one done, with one to go. Appearance is almost exactly the same:

Those are some tasty lookin boxes ya got there! =)

I didn't go to any trouble to match the FET's or alter the circuit for linked stereo operation, no. These are just 2 independent compressors. :D

Ric & Fum,

Those are some very professional looking units!

Nice sounding compressors, eh?

The first one of mine is doing well.

I'm missing the 500k trim pot on the other, so haven't fired it up yet =).

What I did was to follow others advice, and solder an additional ground plane around the perimeter of the board, and terminated everything at the chassis lug of the xlr input.

I used #14 solid copper ( I just did an electrical service upgrade in my house as part of a remodel =) ), so had some handy.

Yes, I did, as the Chef suggested.

I just took a dremel tool with a cutting blade, and lightly zipped off the copper traces( don't press hard, the copper comes off easy), and then point to pointed the connections.

Was really easy to do.

Nice work chaps!

Was just late at work doing some boring stuff like mounting transformers on mine. Hope they will work the first time around too!

Thanks for the kind words all.....

fum - nice work, mate. par metal cases? Is that a 'slam' switch? :D

I have no problems with hum. quiet as a mouse.

I'll eventually get some front panels made for these and some other DIY stuff...but, you know, I don't really need markings to use them so I'm cheaping out right now on that.

One of the best things of having a studio is alot of gear that isn't labled and only you know how to use it!! :green:

I like the aluminum look. They look good even without graphics.

I have 2 babies due in JULY... Its the parts waiting game.
I have been waiting since January for the parts, but finally
I can see everything coming together. I will post pics when
finished.

This is a fun place to be :green:

Cheers,

Nick

I'm a few months from building one of these. So I can prevent a big slow-down, do you mind telling me which parts you had a hard time getting, and where you got them from?

Thanks!

The biggest slow down was waiting for the PCB order to happen
because I was not so interested in doing my own PCB's
quite yet. Then LABS came along and a week later I was in buisiness.

The second slow down was waiting for the VU's from IMS. Backordered.

http://www.meterdistributor.com/SIFAM/SIFAM%20Pg1.htm

sifam 29WF $55.00 plus $13.00 lighting kit.

3rd was a Luhndal shipping mishap. The box arrived without any transfos.
 Looked like the box was run over by a truck. But its all good, they were insured.

So I won't have the Transfos or VU until july, but I plan on having
all else ready to go by then.

I got the Torroid (Y236106) from avel lindberg for $23.00 each

I got my chassis from par-metal for $50.00

RS has a lot of bits n bobs.

I have couple parts lists, But I would'nt mind seeing someone
elses detailed US parts list. I want these things to work the first time i power them on.

I will try and source the rest of the stuff I need
and if I find anything really hard to get I will let ya know.

Maybe Gyraf could add this to the META thread?

Hundreds of finished 1176 pics posted in one thread

Thanks Our Religion!

Thanks guys, that's great information to know ahead of time. I have three kits I'm beginning to work on, and for some reason I've just been trying to get the hard to get stuff first for all of them.

Those damn meters are so expensive!! I wish there was another way... At least I need to order an SSL comp meter while I'm at it. Hopefully I can get them from the same place.

Well, I've already got the PCBs, so at least I'm that far!!!
