It must be possible. I saw somthing online about wide rolls of film for sale. don't know of a source for 8.5X11 or A4 though. I know that some of this film required "dry ink" and a special printer, but I also saw a place that said they had one that works with dye based inks. maybe a groop buy could happen... get a big roll and somebody cuts it into a buch of sheets? has this already been talked about?

I used to work in a label shop. they used 3'x4' sheets of polycarbonate(lexan) 1mil (1/100th") thick. silkscreened the image on that, and I applied adhesive backing and chopped 'em. screen ink. perhaps a local label shop has some to spare. a common control panel found on gas pumps for example. Is this what you are interested in?
I also made the label by the card reader with the image of a thumb found on chevron pumps.
