Hi.

Is is possible to get the following from somewhere?
Steve Dove's series "Designing a Professional Mixing Console" (Studio Sound Magazine, early 1980's).

Is it somewhere on web, or maybe somebody has it scanned and would kindly share it? Or maybe somebody has those magazines in paper, and can scan them, or make quick photographs of them?

thnx

Is Steve Dove's series "Designing a Professional Mixing Console" the same text as published in "Handbook For Sound Engineers", chapter 22, Steve Dove "Consoles and Systems"?

Maybe somebody has both, and can check if it is the same thing?

thnx

It is probably of value to check out both.. the series of articles may have covered more ground than the later text, but the later version would have the benefit of feedback from the original series.

I recall pointing out one error in the magazine series to Steve, but it was a minor point in his overview of sundry filter topologies which was arguably TMI anyhow. I have seen the text version but didn't read it closely.

Steve knows his stuff and the text was probably better edited than earlier magazine work. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

There have been changes in different editions of the Ballou Handbook. I think, as Fred and John suggest, the first editon probably is pretty much a verbatim or somewhat better-edited version of the magazine series. By the third edition the article is called Consoles and Computers. Those are the only two editions I have, and I don't have the original mags.

There are errors but nobody's perfect :green:

Thnx all. I'm happy to have just received article series from Studio Sound in nice pdf file (41MB) from a very kind forum member. Big THNX. And I also have "Handbook For Sound Engineers", hardcopy and pdf file (265MB) from before. At first look magazine articles are not exactly the same thing as book chapter, there seem to be some differences. Both seem to have something extra, which is not in the other.
Like John said, best to check out both.
I'm really happy.
thnx

I think I would like to have a look at that too if someone would be kind enough to throw it over the transom.

JohnR was kind enough to send me his REP article. Did you ever put a link up for that one?[/quote]

While my article is more of a broad strokes overview than Steve's excellent piece, I did scan it and throw it up into the ether a while back. I can't guarantee I'll always leave it where it is but for now it's in 7 different files at these links.

I don't hold the copyrights to this but magazine is long gone so let's hope the IP police consider this fair use.

Mea culpa, it can be embarassing to look back at copy I wrote 25 years ago, but considering how many people still spell it wrong today, or don't even believe it's wrong, I can live with that. FWIW that article was edited before publication, but that same editor screwed up my Bio with his fine editing.

I have a pdf knocking arround somewhere...send me your email address and I'll share the file

cheers

Fascinating read John. I like the TransAmp - exactly what Telefunken did in the V72 and incidentally  what I do in the EZTubeMixer.

Cheers
