Building a new tube microphone using the Royer 5840 common cathode circuit, and was wondering; I have a couple different capacitor types to try for the output capacitor. Would it be a bad idea to install a switch to toggle between two of them?

I don't think I've seen this in anyone's builds around here, and it seemed like a novel idea. Two different flavors in one mic. You might question whether the difference would warrant the effort, but in the mic circuits where I've compared, say polypropylene to polyester, the latter was dirtier in a useful way. A gnarly mid-range can be just the thing. I'd sure like to have that option without building a whole 'nuther mic.

I use flea,IMP clips

I solder in caps(or other leaded parts) to the clips when I am testing.

Will this be the next idea we see implemented in a commercial product? In any case it seems like a good idea, but I would think you'd have to be very very careful with the wiring and you'd need a really high quality switch.

Peace!

I abandoned the switch idea, for now, and went with the Xicon Polypropylene. At some point I want to compare it to this Sprague 735p and a few random met-poly cheapies.

What material is MSR code for? I think it's another metallized polyester: http://triodeelectronics.com/1uficcap.html
