i am building a new box for an old mixer and am trying to figure out what material I should use for the back panel.

it will be about 36" wide and about 6" high. working with a piece of metal that size seems a bit difficult, is there any other material i should consider?

I used some plexiglass for one I built for my Neotek. It's attached with piano hinges on the bottom and five thumbscrews on the top. I painted the back side black, which kind of gives it a cool look.

You could also use some aluminum and get it anodized any color you'd like or polish it up and spray a clear coat over it to prevent oxidation.

I guess it depends on how strong you need it to be and how often you'll need to get behind it.

how stiff does it have to be? can it be braced for extra stiffness? Will it have connectors mounted directly? If so needs to be very stiff and braced material. If not, can be almost anything.
