How to dampen a G7 mic body resonance?

Hi everyone,
When I tap my G7 with my fingernail I get one hell of a "ding".
I know this can't be good!
Anyway, has anyone tried damping a 2" dia. brass body?
How did you do it and what did you use?

try a piece of cheap plastic floor tile curved inside or outside the tube. Cheap and thin so it bends to fit sometimes a hair drier helps. Make sure it is new so it does not have any bad fibers in it.

I've been using adhesive-backed foam that I found at a craft store.
