any sujestions on doing a midi transport controller. i would like one that does just transport couldnt be to difficult. any one with any midi experiance?

How about USB instead of MIDI?

If you can use hot-key commands from your keyboard as transport controls, you could nip the circuit board out of a cheap/used USB keyboard and wire it up to a few push-buttons, like this...

That guy did his specifically for use with n-Track. But, it looks like the general idea ought to work with just about anything that can be controlled with keyboard shortcuts.

I may also look in to Digital Projects for Musicians by Craig Anderton which I believe is sort of a step by step midi computer, controller, thingy....yeah.

This is a little different in that it's USB, but could be very useful:

The advantage of something like this over connecting pcb tracks is that it allows you to program a combination of keys from a single button, so you could add a button to your transport that does Copy (ctrl/cmd)+C, for instance.

If anyone knows another way of doing this (key combinations), please post...

There is also the X-Keys USB Matrix Board http://www.x-keys.com/custom/xkmatrix.php with a 16X8 matrix, for a total of 128 keys for US $59.95.

Cheers,
