I don't recall there being an uproar amongst the Asian community when The Simpsons first broadcast the shopkeeper, Apu... I agree that the Romany culture needs to be preserved and doesn't need stereotyping, but they're being a bit sensitive here aren't they?

I read the "BNP" in the title as meaning 'British Nuclear Police'...

-It gave the title line a whole different perspective!

...and it took me a while to realise what you really DID mean by "BNP"!

But yes, I concur. -Taking things a bit too far.

Keith

Actually, Keef, I got it wrong. In the interests of bringing a little light-hearted relief to the frosty relationship between Britain and Iran, Basil Brush has been despatched to Tehran as the UK representative on the UN inspections panel. As you suggest, it brings a new meaning to the phrase 'Boom, Boom'.

You live in Mayfair and spend all your time in Harvey Nicks. All your friends are called Henry or Henrietta and you've never even heard of TopShop. You don't drive as your chauffeur takes you everywhere. You live on a macrobiotic diet carefully prepared for you by Jamie Oliver. The only airlines you recognise are those that daddy owns. The only pikey you have ever come across is a stuffed one created by Damien Hurst and showing at the Tate Modern.

1-5 Answers:
You're generally far removed from Pikey Island, however, your brother once introduced you to a girl who lived on an estate and shattered your illusions of Barrett Homes being a character from an Emily Bronte novel. You like expensive shops and generally only travel by London Taxi. Your mother once served you fish fingers, however you have adapated enough in adult life to only purchase Tesco's finest crab cakes as a substitute. You have the presence of mind to sneer at a bottle of Freixenet.

6-10 Answers:
You are definately entering the danger zone here. You have owned at sometime in your life a pet fish won from a funfair. You regularly buy Superdrug's own brand toiletries but ensure you carry them home in a Clinique carrier bag. You have a number of gold cards and run a respectable enough car, however, you would do well to remove the "Baby on board" sticker from the back. You enojy good food and wine courtesy of Delia Smith's home cookery course and have been to University.

11-15 Answers:
You have a whiff of dog blanket about you and your shoes need to be resoled. You enjoy garden centres and eating out at country pubs. Your quite well known at the local KwikFit and think nothing of sticking a Bart Simpson doll yo your reat seat window. You have often enjoyed a curry or kebab after a night down the pub and have used a doorway as a public toilet. It is likely that you have been arrested for a minor offence and count George Best as an idol. You are likely to have been educated to A level standard.

There is no hope for you - you are well and truly an escapee from Pikey Island. You will now forever be known as first name "Pikey do as ya likey" surname. You think that Blue Nun is a choice wine and always cook Spag Bolat dinner parties. None of your home cutlery matches and a few of your mugs have established chipping to the handles. Every room in your house is painted Magnolia and you have a dado rail in your living room. You name children after pop or filmstars and buy the Sunday Sport as an informative newspaper. Your car is made by Ford and has fag burns in the driver seat. You've only been to Spain on holiday.

BTW, under new laws in the UK, I could be arrested for posting the above, under 'race hate' legislation...

J

BTW - When was the last time you went to 'Bejam'? That's old-school... I can remember the days of 'Presto' - they did a nice line in lager-shandy.

Oh, and I have a few friends in Penge... I must be a pikey!!!!

I also had a sausage dog draught excluder - I thought they were the pinnacle of style...

Cross-pond clarification needed- is a "pikey" an interloper or a redneck? I think the former, learned in a good film "Snatch". The whole piker and caravan thing had me rolling.
"Gaw, I hate bloody pikers"- gypsies in that case; interlopers generally?

Not the greatest Captain Beefheart record in my opinion.

"Pikey" = A colloquial, pejorative term referring to an itinerant, caravan-dwelling Gypsy of Irish extraction.

Basil Brush racist ?
Jesus, there are too many people out there with time on their hands.
I don't personally have extreme views on the subject, but if you've ever lived some place where gypsies, pikeys or travellers (call them what you will) have moved in, I doubt whether these prats would be so PC.

Is Basil a racist? I wouldn't put it past Mr Brush - his mate Postman Pat is a member of the Yakusa: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/720419.stm

You can't trust Rainbow's puppets either - they're a bunch of perverts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyqEPgRc6IE

You've got to watch those puppets - there's been a moral decline since Muffin the Mule.

LMFAO!

I scored 4! I'm a little bit pikey.

I have eaten a pot noodle. Can't recommend it but I didn't die.

Re. second class stamps. I had a friend who for a while was management at the local sorting office. He assured me that the only difference between 1st and second class is the price. Everything is treated exactly the same. It is not worth the effort or extra cash to have two separate streams. Now I always buy 2nd class, or registered.

Washing stays on the line until it's dry. Living in York that means it can stay out from October until the end of April. :p

I grew up in Preston in the 70s, where everyone had afters and only posh twits had dessert.

(For those of you in London, Preston is norf of the river!)
