Is 670's lateral/vertical mode the same as mid/side?

Was looking at 670's matrix schematic and tried to compare it with passive mid/side encoder/decoder using transformers,

The 670 does it with Dual primary input windings wired in series switched to L + R and L - R to encode M/S and dual output winidings switched to L + R and L - R to decode the M/S to Left and Right again.

L + R is wired +input to +left- to +right- to -input
L - R is wired +input to +left- to -right+ to -input

If you put in Left and Right in to the above wiring you get M/S out.
If you put in M/S in to the above wiring you get Left and Right out.

So Left Compressor works over the Middle and Right Compressor works over the Side.

Vert = Mid = L + R and Lat = Side = L - R.
