Just some sites I had saved. Blue and Red mics capsules are readily available also just google. Try contacting a manufacturers distributor near you. Some sell to the public others don’t.You may be suprised you have nothing to lose for an e-mail or phone call.any other links are welcome to this thread. I left out electrets as they seem to be widely available. And dynamics as there don’t seem to be to many DIYers making them.

thanks for that. looking through those links I found this.

Looks like an adapter for that old 'almost-XLR' type of connector, right ?

I have some plugs like that, old Philips tube-stuff used these for speaker-plugs and I've seen them used for mic-cables as well. Don't know what the official name for these is. Feel less sturdy (lighter) than XLR, but certainly less flimsy than DIN-3 etc.
yes it is. Amphenol to XLR
Ah, Amphenol, hadn't expected that. Considered this plug some cheapo old-world idea so far

Scroll to the bottom and drool.

I have a MBC KA 200 N capsule on a josphson body. It rocks.

Don't forget electrets:

Here's a good 3um and 6um aluminum metallized mylar supplier:

Have used them in many a prototype and have rolls sitting on the bench right now.

Anyone have a 797 distributor? How about a gold/mylar film distributor?

Does anyone have any info on how well-made these capsules are? I'm not looking for the best in the world, nor the cheapest, but simply something with a very good price/performance ratio. Also, all of his are center-terminated capsules, and I'm wondering how well those will work in the G7. I seem to recall the G7 was designed for the edge-terminated capsules.

Thanks!

The 367 is also a center-terminated capsule, though. Unfortunately, I've been out of the DIY loop for so long, and I can't remember half of what I've forgotten the past couple of years. I guess it's time to hit the books and board and catch up.

Heh, sorry for asking stupid questions again. I'm just in the process of re-aligning my priorities, both personal and musical, and a few things have recently really made me re-think what I really need in order to make some good music. Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

So my priority now is going to be on building a pair of mics, a ribbon and a condenser (and then maybe an electret mic or two for fun), and my have-now-been-waiting-forever-for-me-to-finish-them mic preamps. So at the moment, I was hoping to decide on a decent mic capsule to buy for my G7.

I have a MBC KA 200 N capsule on a Josephson body.
Which body? C617?

Samuel
C603

When Joe was starting out, he had his mic bodies made by MBHO witch leads to the compatibility benefit. Maybe I'll buy one of the LDCs when the bread flows...

consul: a while back i emailed

http://member.rivernet.com.au/gwagner/micparts/lowcost_capsules.htm

and inquired where the capsules where made. the capsules are made in china. not sure if they are 797 or not.
