Anyone of you got any experience with using perforated plywood as acoustic treatment of a room?

If the holes are the same size then you will only get absorption in a very narrow region of frequencies, the Helmholtz Resonator effect. You would need a lot of different, specific size holes to tune the panel.

I wonder if using a variable distance between the backing surface would broaden the bandwidth? Some damping would certainly widen the Q.
 
I think slats are the way to go. There's loads of info on john sayers forums and users there are pretty keen in helping
