so i'm trying to figure out what would be good values for LED clipping indicators for a mic pre?
so you have

yellow
green
red

would it be:
yellow: -6db
green : -3 db
red: +4db

A red LED at +4 sounds pretty useless. I'd find out what level your mic pre starts clipping at, and make that your red LED. I'd probably go with +4 (or nominal) for your yellow LED, and make the green one a "signal present" LED that hits at maybe -20.

Also, you need to specify peak or RMS/average. Those numbers sound pretty laughable as peak numbers, and you need to be aware of how your detector is working, and what it's giving you.
