Just had to do it for a client who's working in "8" when I was happy staying
at Pro 7.2 !!
Man it's very different, can't seem to find certain well used things.
Anyone have thoughts ?
I guess it's a case of RTFM ( read the fu**ing manual ) :green:

Yeah, the soft-synths and plugins were always good - apart from the comps
and limiters !! ( UAD only on those ... or real of course :-O )
I'll have to spend tomorrow working with it ... the "missus" won't be pleased!

It looks very different to 7
the big step - it is much easier, you don't need a good environment (for audio (where most people failed)), it is much more intuitive.
maybe not at the beginning when you know earlier versions.
but you still can have all the stuff from the earlier versions (screensets, environment etc)
the only bugger: once converted a song to 8 there is no way back to 7

Hey Volker, how are you ? I may be back in Berlin about 14th July for a few
beers .... it's your round :)
I've had logic since V2.5 on floppy disk !! this looks like "garageband" it's
like they made it "Logic semi - pro" for lawyers and bankers to pretend they
can make music with their collection of PRS guitars and apple loops !!

I hate it, but it's the only way forward, I'm going to have to be VERY careful and
not open anything with it from 7.2 and save !!!
I'm sure I'll get used to it, all my plugins came up fine just need to work out how
to import some environments, like the one for Toon Tracks superior drums :)

peace,
Martin.

Aha - good to know :thumb:
ran it quite hard last night, seems OK but still that "good old" can't process
the data quick enough error !! .... when will they sort that out ? I've even
had it playing back 1 stereo track with no plugins on a quad core 2.6 !!!

Will let you know about July, I should be there between 14th and 22nd or so.
More Alphaville recording :) - they are here next week in London.

I am looking at buying a secondhand mac to run Logic, what is the minimum you guys would advise? Cash is an issue unfortunately, if not I bought new rightaway.... since this is for a programroom/student, a laptop could do I guess?

Tony -
The iMac's are cost effective if you want to run any video stuff (Final Cut) - dedicated graphics card where as mini/macbook uses shared graphics which cant handle video work.Bear in mind that macbook/mini/imac only good if you run firewire/USB audio interface - if you run PCI you need macpro or macbookpro with appropriate expander(if other than PCIe)

thanks Gents, I also would like to run a PT mBox on the same machine, but that shouldn't be an issue I assume?

Anyone happen to know fair prices and stuff to look out (or avoid) when buying 2nd hand?

Check the apple refurbished site - just checked the belguim site - nothing on - here's the German refurb site
http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/germanstore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=MTIzMzE&nclm=Certified
- some good savings - and you get 1 year warranty. Should also get free carriage.
I'm on my 3rd refurb machine in over 8 years - all still going strong - saved between 15% and 40%!

Volker, as I thought, importing the "Drum kit from hell" layer didn't work out
and several of the individual drum channels were missing.
It kind of worked but only as a simple stereo output for all the kit.
DFH uses "aux" channels and they got somewhat confused with what was
there in the Pro 8 setup.
Importing the "Superior" layer gave me a blank and empty environment.
I made a new environment for it from scratch and it's fine now.
Also the items in the layers seem "locked' and cannot be moved around !!
I can't seem to figure out why, you just can't grab a fader and move it to a
new position within that layer ?

MM.

to unlock:
^P if you don't use a custom key command set.
or the first line under the "view" sub menu rider in the environment
(in german: Kabel und Positionen schützen)
(rough translation: lock cables and positions)

:sam: :sam: :sam:

sadly Bernd is in Berlin one week before you
but there are other members here in Berlin, if we can find a date and place some others might chime in
