Some of the comments about opamps make me want to refer via the comments to Samuel Groner's work-in-progess on evaluating them for distortion, including common-mode and thermal.

I continue to be impressed with Bruno, compared to the rest of that room.

His comment in passing about power mosfets is worth note. I have followed the class D power amp technology for years and we are finally getting to point where device technology supports making serious power for professional applications.

I would be a little more interested in opinions from the high volume companies, but Yamaha rolls their own ICs in some cases, and I think Uli is behind Cool Audio, so I know what chips he likes (those $.07 opamps).
