Make Magazine makes a speaker using paper, business cards, a Styrofoam plate, some wire and a magnet, hot glue, and tape:

I thought this was pretty cool. You wouldn't be monitoring your 24-track with these, but it could be a fun low-fi effect for the studio, like a cheap guitar amp or the like.
 
The first thing I'm wondering is if gluing a round of foam slightly smaller than the magnet to the cardboard, then gluing the magnet to that, thus elevating it to center it in the coil, would "improve" the "fidelity" of this project.
 
reminds me of Polyplaner?(I think that was the name) speakers the white foam ones from the 70's and IIRC the yamaha one in an old fender guitar amp
