A bad output tranny caused a niggle in the second module, but once I narrowed it down the fix was a cinch. They sound SOOOO good. THey are both ultra quiet, and silky smooth. There is a reason people have coveted the R.N. designs for so long...they are just awesome.

DIY is keeping me busy! ...and I am loving it! Thanks to all for the help and great support of this forum!

Nice looking Preamps. :thumb: How did you supply Power and rack them? They're almost not something you would want to cover up. Send some racked pics if you can. I'm jelous that I can't have everything sweet in the candy store. I'm personally still waiting on rack cases for two G9's & 2 SSL's. Can't wait. Can I ask about cost per channel?

The transformers are enamel coated. Carnhill lays it on THICK too! I guess they are really concerned about loss due to eddy currents and don't take any chances.

I used the CH01 rack that is designed for these modules. I got it all from Tim ryan at Seventh Circle (a great guy NEVER too busy to type a 2 page e-mail if you need help!).

I will post some pictures of them in the rack later. It is a shame to cover them up since they are about as colorful as a Christmas tree. I guess mechanics feel the same way about car engines.

The cost per channel is $300 and Tim supplies everything (transformers, PCBs, misc. parts, even screws to mount the transformers).

The power supply is also Tim's design, but since the regulators are on the channels themselves you can use just about any good power supply with 27+ volts. Keep in mind the 1272s only need +27 and +48, the A-P-Is need +/- 27 as well as +48.

As promised, here are the pix of all 4 modules in the case. Notice the power supply to the left, and 4 open spaces remaining to the right. I will be filling the next 2 spaces with j99s (Jensen Twin Servo designs using John Hardy op-amps) and the remaining two are still to be determined. I may build two more 312s, or save the spaces for Tim Ryan's new C33 all discrete preamp coming out.

Did you splice in the API stuff into some Seventh Circl boards or make your own boards?
Or does 7th Circle offer the API boards also?

Everything you see is Tim's design. He now offers 1272, A-P-I, and Jensen Dual Servo boards. He has been seriously busy.

Since I built the A-P-Is he has also introduced his own 2520 remake op-amps, identical except for better cmrr and noise. I have 2 on order to compare with. I may build two more of that design to use them with.

He also has a John Curl discrete transformer in/out preamp design coming in a few months called the C33, as well as a 1272 based DI box. Tim has been very busy indeed.

He has not confirmed, but hinted at possibly bringing out a classic compressor design as well.

I still can't seem to price parts on any of his modules at equal (much less cheaper) cost to his full kits either. I don't see how he can make very much on all the work he does. Tim is surely a great guy!
