Hi!

Does anyone here have experience with cleaning / servicing AKG CK1 capsules? I have on that has become prone to humidity and wanted to see of I could improve it.

Also, does anyone know if there is any difference between older and new CK1, or has the manufacturing process remained the same?

Thanks!
Stewart

i serviced / repaired and even reskinned some of the ck1/2/3 capsules , but it just doesnt make sense economically. often the cartridges are availble for not much money - from what i´ve read.
sometimes cleaning the pin and the edge of the membrane , where it´s connected to the capsule housing, helps.

some random pics from the capsule innards
to open them, turn the three set screws inwards and open it carefully (but you might know that already)

Thanks for the tips. I'd managed to get inside but thought I'd canvass opinions before I got stuck in too far. The pictures help.

i've got the same problem ,capsule is cooking and poping...
how would you recomend cleaning it?

start with the pin, without opening the capsule - a bit of sanding. also clean/scrape of dirt where the pin goes on the mic body.
if it didnt help, but noise changes when move the capsule while twisting, open it and clean the insisde - the edge of the membrane (gold doesnt come off as easy as on a old pvc m7 ldc, but still be careful) and the inside of the capsule tube where the membrane edge connects to.

i did the pin and pin base with no significant improvment..

i see no gold.. the diaphragm is all "silverish" , the edge (where its glued to the capsule) is a bit torn off - i'll post a pic later..

i did try to clean it with a q tip with distilled water (very gently)- still pops...

thanks for the tips

yes, the old ck1 has a silver structured membrane.

did you try another capsules to rule out the amp as the cause of error?

here is the pic.....a bit blury but you can see the wear in the edges -

ok,ive replaced the bad photos and now you can see whats going on....

just as you say - while twisting the capsule the noise changes.
when i hold it firmly againt the mic (twisting in) it gets quiet for 15-30 seconds, then cooking returns...

did you clean the inside of the capsule housing?
A few times .

Im worried that because of the missing membrane in the edges there is no good contact with the housing . possible? or is it only a matter of cleaning?
