I m hunting down the parts for the S800EQ.

Does it matter which brand of TL071 and NE5532 should I buy?
Any tips where in Europe can I get the best ones?

PS, I can't order Colin's KITs to make it easier as I have some parts already on my table...
he will offer Texas Instruments TL071CP and NE5532AP in the KITs.

Thanks for the tips :thumb:

Tat, how many of each do you need ?
I have some spares from a Studiomaster desk, TLO71's and 5532's are
all TI brand with Portugal mark also.
I'll see how many I have ....

MM.

TI are the best in my book for sounds and reliability of the current production models. The Phillips are nice, but the odds of you getting them are not great since they haven't been manufactured for years since the factory burnt down.

You can't go wrong with TI.

Cheers

Matt

P.S Tat since I owe you some money and will be shipping you your Sifam knobs maybe we can work out a deal so I can help you get those IC's and you can deducat it form what I owe you.

Hi Matta, I didn't know you will be sending me some Sifam knobs, are you sure about this?

Send me an email of your IC deal so I can choose the best offer out there

If you read Joel's post on the SIFAM KNOBS I will be helping him by shipping ALL the European orders to help save him having to ship out all the orders worldwide.

I'll get a price on the IC's and let you know.

Cheers
I need 80 x TLO71's and 16 x 5532's ... to DIY 16 channels.

OK, I thought you meant 4 channels worth or so !!

The reason for me choosing TI is mainly historical from working at AMEK.... they seemed to be the only brand that always passed THD+N testing .... other brands tended to be batch specific.... when you are manufacturing you want the consistancy (plus less effort).
Anybody lovin' BB here??No??Too "cold"???(604/2604)
The TLO71 is part of the original sound of this EQ.

Hmmmm , i think the price just went up !.......................

Actually i'll entertain trades or generousity for those GOOD citizens
[ the non greedy ones ] of the grp ,

Rednoise reports that farnel has them for a decent price [ .35 ? ]
may not be worth the post from me , even if free
and one would think there is not a big demand so shouldn't
be hard to find a good deal

Trades for Black market project parts are welcome ,
Got myself in trouble with too many projects and losing a big contract
So if you need anything , i'm starting with stuff i don't need
check for freebies at end of post .

EMAIL ME , gboboski*at*shaw.ca

Some things i paid too much for so likely would only work as a trade ,
if you have something of value that didn't cost you much may make good trade for us both .
[ like no one will want to pay 100.00 for the jensen dbe even though that's what is cost me ,
but say you got a groovey gtr pedal worth 120.00 that you paid 30.00 for
[ or something like that ] then we both win

If there is no price , then best offer or trade as i
a] don't know what good values are for them &
B ] need as much money as i can get for more other gooder parts , thanks

I read somewhere Signetics were the "best sounding" aop...Signetics bought by philips...Can someone confirm??or not...
Matta , you really love the TI?
What about OPA 134 , with near0 output offset??
Sorry for noob questions, but answers will help a lot!

Signetics are way way out of production and they are the best IMO.
read about them here. I could really hear a noticable difference.
I've done a few op amp swaps where I'd have been hard pressed to actually say there was a big difference.

you might find some through a surplus chip dealer- try findchips.com but you'll have to buy the lot, how ever many that is... I winced when I had to buy 100 but now I'm glad i did.

I have a series 80 issue 4 PCB and it is fitted with;

Texas Instruments TL071CP.....
Signetics NE5534N

and a couple of AD OP-27's.... they may of course be non original.

In the AML kits it has Texas Instruments TL071CP and NE5532AP (5532 is used in PeterC's circuit as this is part an "add on" to give the balanced O/P).

You should choose 5532AP rather than 5532P.
