Nothing so exciting, I'd just like to share it here.

Built around an old Simpson 1542 NOS VU meter. The O/P tranny is an Altec 15356A. The device has the Slam/All Knobs function.
Enclosure is a 280mm slim line from Modushop. The frontpanel has threads for the switches/pots, no hex nuts...
Looks better when the knobs are close to the frontpanel...
 
The meters are discontinued since a couple of decades... I got them from ebay, one will find them occasionally.
Siegfried, I'm not sure if this answers your question: instead of drilling a hole into the front panel I decided to let Schaeffer put some threads (like M 7x 0.75 for the pots) in the panel which allows to wind/mount the pots directly from the rear. This allows to avoid fixing them from the front with hex nuts. So I didn't hide the hex nuts, I simply didn't use them.
