If I need to drop 0.6 volts, whats the advantage of using a diode instead of a resistor? Powerloss?

Using a rectifier, the forward voltage drop will remain around 0.6-0.7V for any moderate current draw and ambient temperature. With a resistor, the voltage drop is totally dependent on current drawn.
