Hmmm, I'm going to need to sleep on this one...

But as I'm posting this, I realized the 169R resistor is still in circuit even when unswitched...

Amazing what sleep will do. I woke up this morning realizing that I could add links to the pad just by *extending* the PCB to the right. Let the subconscious mind work on it...
