Just wanted to share with you guys interested in building some of those nice tube preamps.....
Very inexpensive build...

Wiring is pretty easy...XLR  to terminal all switching now on board.....

BOM:

Board is just a quarter of an inch bigger than the pic.

Sorry i dont want to mess with the psu thats up to you!

Thanks to the Master behind it! Our New York Dave.

cool, but do that axial caps are readily available? I think I had some problems finding quality axial caps in Poland, don't know about rest of the EU though.

Also, out of interest... why not add the PHASE/PAD to the PCB as well? Makes it even neater and only takes up little board space? Also what about Dave "HI-Z IN" as well, or least making pads there if one wants to add it?

I don't think it's possible to *not* be neat with wiring pad or phase directly on the DPDT switches used with them. Put them on the PCB and you're only forcing extra wire, increasing complexity, and inevitably noise as well.

Hey nice work stepping up with that ,
I agree though why not make dual footprint
to take radial though they do seem more common

Ny , you o.k. with this

Nice work there!

Hey 3nity, on another recent post, you mentioned you had a problem with low gain for recording quiet vocals with a Cinemag input transformer, I assume it is this same PCB built pre as this one, did you resolve the low gain issue?

Michael

Any 75101 or 8PCA will do.
The psu has 48V but needs a second transformer or a custom transformer.
90$ the channel excluding a psu.

I was thinking to do all the switching but i don need pad or phase....

Greg this is for personnal use i dont plan on selling this!!

MIchael: i was missing a resistor to ground and it was P2P gain increased since.

God bless.

BTW new layout its done with radial caps....

No way man  , ya gotta sell me one [two ] , o.k. , ok
if you don't want to sell them i'll take two
actually with the setup charge it's a shame not to make a few

Go for the highest ratio  input Xmfr for a little extra gain , but
a one tuber is never going to be high gain , by itself 40 db
add the input xfmr [ 1:10 ]for a little extra , so loud things are o.k. and if
going into a line stage with a little make up gain then you don't
have to run it flat out , you may find you like the sound
of certain gain settings [ i haven't looked at Dave's two tube ]
but have retro fitted this one tuber into a couple of old mixers
and added direct outs

Great work!

I will add it to my long list of projects to build in 2010.  ;)

If you don't mind sharing, please send me the a file of the copper layer,

Kato

Nice work man. Are you going to share the etch files by any chance? I do have some valves coming for this in a bit, so it would be nice to have a board... Was planning on P2P or turret board until now, but I'd prefer a PCB..

I can make it available on a PDF format if interest is there.
btw i have a new board where i took everyone idea on consideration.
switching is on the board but the DI matta is talking about i couldn find any info about.

It was impossible to me to upload pix of the new layout.

Now if someone volounteer to host the files is good for me.

Thanks.

3nity,
I don't mind hosting, and I'd love to make a few of these myself with the etch artwork.  Just drop me an email at joel (at) rattletree (dot ) com.

Greg, the obvious fact is that Dave would need to give his permission if there was going to be a money exchange situation.  Hate to say it, but it seems like he's been burned a couple times already with people potentially making money off his fine work, so we should certainly give all due respect to his desires (as I'm sure you and everyone here agree).
