hah, I was looking for a picture of this but you had already found one! my dream car as well. needs to come with the ejectable seat of course. Although I'd equally well take the very similar looking Mercedez Benz gullwing, of which I had a diecast model as a kid.

For me as a child I was nuts about E type Jaguars, I still have the workshop manual for it somewhere around here.      Later I switched to the Austin Healey 3.0 litre, 100/4, 100/6, & I'd still love to own one at some stage & do a cruising holiday down to the French Riviera.

64 Valiant.  I had one in my early 20's (early 90's), with only 30K original miles on it.  Loved that car and plan on getting one again someday.  Metal dashboard, push button transmission with the reverse lever...  I once got a ticket in it for going too slow.

Does it show that I'm not a car guy?  ;D

Oh, I was just reminded of the Datsun 240Z, before they became Nissan (click on thumbnail for larger pic):



It took me a while to find a picture of one that wasn't all "streeted" out.  :-\ These things are going for real money these days, I just learned.

Not exactly my dream car but that valiant reminds me of my 'cuda an every-day driver I picked up on the cheap back in early '70s. I had to replace the water pump in it, but other than that I rode it hard and put it away wet.

On a lark I even ran it at Island one time while I was there to watch some friends of mine race their serious go-fast cars.

John (Fireball), my Valiant was actually cheaper than your 'cuda.  $150  ;)  It was literally owned by a little old lady that only took it to church and to the market.
 
I never really had a childhood dream car. As a teen, though, I wanted a 1968 Mercury Cougar.

I have a 67!  It was my first car.  I had to rebuild the whole engine/transmission/rearend but it was worth it.  It's now in the garage in various states of being refinished with new sheet metal.

64 Valiant.

My friend is a Dodge guy.  he has 3 of them and 2 darts, all 64.  He also had a 64 polara that we stuffed a 440 into but he eventually sold that.

Well, I'm really not picky about the year, to be honest, as long as it's before any major redesign. I think Cougar's were around from '66 to '70 (or '71) in the form that I like. I've been out of the car thing for so long I can't even remember anything about years and models anymore.

Though I really wouldn't mind having a 240Z these days. It would probably take well to an electric conversion (NOT heresy if I find one gutted of its engine and transmission). I was actually thinking about getting a non-working Pontiac Fiero for that, though, as they are well-suited to electric conversion for various reasons, not the least of which being that they can be found cheaply.
 
It is the 57 Nomad for me too.  The guys down the street owned a few of them and they rule.  Still is.  I drove a few when I was a professional valet, and the stock vehicle is uncomfortable and a very spongy handle.  I'd take the body fit to a S500 chassis/drive train and be in business.

Ah. -Sounds like quite the scene. -You could film a sequel to "twelve angry men" and call it "Three Bitter men"

Just what are they fetching these days, I wonder? -It mattereth little in real terms however, since you could be given one as a gift and still end up in the poor house after a year.

I like 'characterful' cars, and currently own a car which is faster, immensely better in every handling respect than a Bitter, and over the course of its life seems to have cost approximatly a than a dollar a mile to maintain, which also approximates the current money which I spend on it. Since it has right about a quater of a million miles on it, I'm glad that the first 220,000 miles were paid for by someone else... but even with this lesson in "speedcarnomics", I still could be tempted to give garage space to something like a Bitter... even if I could scarcely afford to take it to the end of the driveway once a week! ;)

At 15, my dream car was the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio.

Also loved the Bertone X1/9. (You can probably guess what year I turned 15.)
And loved any poorly-engineered, Italian car. Loved the Fiats, knew fell well I'd be pushing them as often as driving.
I'd have a junkyard full of 500s in my backyard if I had a lifetime to fix them.

I guess I was drawn to good-looking pieces of crap, cuz I liked Triumphs and MGs, too.
Wait, I didn't read the thread title carefully - these are nightmare cars.  :D

But life is too short to spend repairing cars. So in real life, I drive a '91 Saab 900.
