Hmmmm.... When I see a statement like that I tend not to continue with the rest.

" AND SINCE DAVISOUND EMPLOYS VERY UNIQUE , ORIGINAL METHODS WHICH DISTINGUISH OUR DESIGNS AND RESULTING SUPERIOR SONICS THAT CAN NOT ALWAYS BE "MEASURED" BY TRADITIONAL TEST INSTRUMENTS ... "

I wonder if wood finish has effect on their sound signature.

Timber has no EMI shielding property, and without the internal screening your equipment will be completely vulnarable.

Heat dissipation is another concern.

Finally it is fire hazard. You may have an equipment like that in your studio but for some reason, even if it is very remote,  it cathches fire, you will find that your insurers  will void your insurance.

If you really like the wood effect you can either clad the metal case with a veneer of your choice or build a smaller metal case inside the wooden case.

well burning timber can sometimes have an interesting acoustic effect, especially if placed near I microphone. Lets not write off the idea altogher:)

Completely agree. A statement like this destroys any and all credibility. Particularly with MEASURED in inverted commas.

Too bad if the termites got into your rack ...

I'm not sure zachs was referring to the quality of the electronics, but was speaking to the...

Pretty amazing looking stuff here, great idea

They do mention....
....Also, please note that where necessary for shielding purposes, wooden panels and cabinet coverings interiors are copper ground-plane shielded ... and inter-connected with copper braid ground strap.

I may have posted this before, but it was a lot of work for me (veneer), and  bragging rights have not yet been exceeded....

Zachs, I agree with you the Davisound cases look great. I have been looking into building a davisound type case. Looks like they use a solid piece of 1/4" red oak for a front panel, 3/4" red oak for side panels, not sure about top, bottom and back. I am going to try 1/4" baltic birch. The wood is not to expensive. To do a 3 unit case about $16.50 plus shipping from http://www.ocoochhardwoods.com/ .
Sheilding: I've read where people mount the components onto a aluminum cake or cookie pan, mount that in the bottom and use thin copper sheeting or other metal to the interior side of the wood. Some rivet it on.
Here is a forum thread where they talk about this subject.

As far as ventilation goes Davisound cuts a big hole in the top of their cases which use tubes.

The wood cases are good looking but, I don't want to burn my house down! I guess I'll just do the same old thing.
