if you are into old school stuff i reccommend the audio cyclopedia By Howard Tremaine.

It has everything from breakdowns of transformer building, to how record lathes work and microphones..
Pretty much everything audio based. Has lots of schematics for things like old compressors, mic pres...why and the how of what they are doing.
Hard to find, from 1975 but very good read! Expensive when you can find it though  :-[
I am lucky enough to also have the bound jensen book and That workbook. All of the info from both is available through their sites in pdf format.

I have had it for almost 20 years now. Great reference manual. They discontinued hardvover version and introduce a softcover version.
