Dana, I'm still pondering if I would like to give it a go for a day or two. I'm afraid being you would kill me!  ;D Glad your finger can relax a bit too  ;)

Well guys, the first batch of Gary's DOA boards and full bundles are sold out. As of right now, I have 2 parts only kits left. Like Gary mentioned 2 posts above, he's got 500 boards coming in a few weeks. In the meantime, I have lots of packages to put together. Barring an act from God, or my wife, everything that has been ordered since Friday, will ship out tomorrow (Monday).

Cheers, Jeff  :)

I recommend you keep pondering. That's quite a commitment yer contemplating. Don't rush that decision................

I thought I might post something worth reading for a change. Jeff is selling some outstanding products here. I have purchased several of his boards, some pots and some of the new Gary DOA's. I have been collecting components for the last 3 or 4 years to build a discrete mixer. When Jeff's boards showed up in March, I decided to move from feasibility phase into build mode. This is going to be a line mixer only. No mic pre's. I have plenty of mic pre's. The mixer will have four different types of line input transformers (Marinaire L31267's, Cinemag 15k:15k's, Jensen JE-11P-1's and Lundahl LL1540's). At least six different kinds of DOA's in there (SL-2520's, Gary DOA's, Seventh Circle SC25's, Forssell JFET's, SGA-990's, Burdij DOA's, etc., etc....). Transformer-balanced EA-2623 direct outputs on every channel. Output iron coming out my wazoo. Today I'm sitting out in the driveway, working on a folding card table. I just finished drilling 64 holes for 64 1/4" balanced Re-An connectors. This is where it's at. DIY'ing out in the driveway. It's sunny. The dog is sleeping right there. Drilling and bolting aluminum. My engineer is going to shit himself when he starts using this thing. I ran out of 1/4" connectors. That means I'll be placing an order at Mouser tomorrow (more 1/4" Re-An, Mill-Max pins, caps and resistors). Oh man...... I love this forum. DW.

Good God Dana! I'm glad I have been able to help catapult you into fabrication! Your project is amazing to say the least. I'm glad you finally let the horse out of the barn too. Pics are more than welcome. Words are nice, but pics tell a story. DIY porn!  :p

A small store update:
I have just added the last remaining 4pc of Ed's 2503's to the store stock. I wanted to get to the end so I knew exactly where it all stood. I have another 100pc on order. Should be in around the beginning of July or so.

All orders placed over the weekend will be dropped at the PO this afternoon. I will also get the pdf support docs to you guys later today as well.

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff

Sorry if I'm missing something that you have already explained, but I trolled through this thread & didn't seem to find what I was looking for.

Could you explain in a bit more detail the functionality of the 812d discreet monitor channel ?

I was looking into the possibility of building a smallish line mixer & was wondering if these modules have functionality for monitor & echo sends etc ?

Hey SIXTYNINER,  8)

We have the parts kits but sold out of the PC boards very quickly. Gary has 500pc on order that we should have in about 2 weeks if you can hold on.

Cheers, Jeff

Hey Rob,

I have been working on a full description to publish on the site since I have had quite a few people ask what you have just asked! I seem to be getting side-tracked a lot lately. I have 2/3rds of the text written but need to complete it.

So, in the meantime, here is a brief rundown:
The card is size and plug-in compatible with the original API 812 series of modules. Pin outs are compatible with the originals. I have also incorporated a few useful functions that were never made available originally. I have also disabled a few things on my board like the the Sync/Master Sync functions. Essentially, with a few little mods and some additional summing...these will drop right into a vintage console.

The basic circuit is a 2 stage, all discrete replication of the input channel of my board. The new ones are line in only.

4 Echo sends, 1&2 are switchable pre-post fader

2 Cue sends switchable pre-post fader

L-R stereo pan

Phase reverse

Mute

Solo(destructive like the original)

2 switch, 3 HP filter array, 60, 100 and 200hz

Balanced send via 2623-1, unbalanced return

Outboard fader required, mine are 5K

Stereo bus on/off

And lastly, a toggle to select what is being metered, input channel or monitor channel. This is a little weird but that is how it was. The meter buffer is on the monitor card. Only 32 meters and 64 inputs, so selection is needed.

I will not have sub-groups on these channels but they can also have 16 group buses added pretty easily. The 2nd 2520 DOA will drive them with no problem.

So, even though I refer to them as "monitor" channels, it is really only related to the size format for my board. Circuit wise, they are "input" channels with no group buses. They are .75" wide by 10.65". As soon as this project is underway, I will finish the 500 size format. I have it started just to make sure it is physically possible....and it is :) Unique and dedicated PCB backplanes required, Volker is the man!  :D ;) 8)

Oh, just remembered...there is a little more info here on this thread.

Cheers, Jeff

Jeff, sounds like very interesting modules.
let me know details for backplanes  ;D
(your DOAs arrived today, the big test is on it's way  ;))

I will keep you all posted.

As far as the DOA's...Excellent! :D !

What is the size of this card, is it much taller than a 500 series card ?   Sorry I've never seen an API console in the flesh.

Also what is the connector like ?  Is it similar to the 500 series connector or different ?

How many transformers does the board require & of what type ?
