I was thinking it could be cool to put a pultec filter section after the input trafo but before the compressor circuit on a drip la2a.  As the La2a's have 40dbs of gain I was thinking that would serve as make up gain for the filter.  Does this seem probable?

I think you would need to make up the gain loss due to the filter prior to the compressor section
so that the compressor would see sufficient level to trigger gain reduction.

and not affect the threshold , seems like a good idea at first
but after the comp and you could brighten any heavy compression
but then need a buffer output stage ?

perhaps the easiest way to experiment would be take the
passive circuit and try inserting it unbalenced into a couple
of spots .

i know  , you have all that extra gain and only need 20 db or so
so try it in a patchable way

I ordered a Gyraf board, the parts count on the filter section is pretty low so I'll probably do just that.  I'll post back with results.

Thanks.
