hey, i get lots of  noise when my card output is up to high volumes.
I know i know...get a new card..
i was just curious about what can be done electronically or externally to help with it? any sort of shielding techniques?
what causes white noise?
unless i am wrong about white noise...its a high static sort of sound.

Shielding is usually less about 'white' noise and more about 'buzz' and 'crackle'.

White noise is produced at high gains by most or all gear, so....

If it's an inexpensive card and you don't usually notice it, I'd say you're doing okay.

no buzz or hum...just some static hiss...
usually at high levels. i suspect my monitor control/headphone control unit...but sometimes i dont hear it on record, but what i just recorded...in playback.
What gets me is on my prr varimu, i have a driver and then the limiter..in driver mode it has no noise, in limiting mode i get a some static at high levels.
???
im sure when i upgrade to a better interface i will have better luck.
the card itself was expensive when new..but its pretty old.
the card was made back in 97 by a company called S'EKD who made alot of software like samplitude and digital performer.
Its the Arc88 http://www.sonicsense.com/sekd.htm
sounds good...and i got it for cheap from a friend who bought it new for about 1200.
If tape wasn't so pricey, i would try to buy my buds 1" 16track otari off him  ;D
