lead can be absorbed by contact, it is well documented. It is a good idea to wear a cotton glove on the solder holding hand.... not easy to force yourself to do, though. Many brands of solder come with heath warnings, at the least to wash after using.
Although there is not lead in the fumes, breathing flux is bad for you lungs. Of course this is all relative to exposure, I myself am soldering several hours each day. What is really bad are the new "safe" silver solders, the flux fumes are horrible!
