I just looked at alot of G7 posts and did not find a source of 7 PIN xlr connectors in the states.

In the USA what companys have the best prices on good 7 pin connectors? Mouser carrys up to 6 pin.

FWIW this is for a few china microphone rebuilds to a tube circuit. I don't like the royer 5 pin xlr method. If I build a body I often use Amphenols rated at 300VDC.

Hi Gus,
What is the issue with only having 5 pins? Is it that the -ves for the heater and B+ must be combined, and no separate polarisation voltage, or am I missing something here?

so for example something like this....
1, 2: Audio hot & cold
3 B+
4 heater +
5 0V
Screen = ground

I have several old tube mics now with just 4: B+ heater AC and ground connections!

pattern control and proper shielding using the shield to carry ground currents is not a good way to wire a microphone.

Markertek is pretty good with connectors. They've done some special orders for me in the past--problem free.

You might try redco as well.

search part description xlr 7, they have both cable and chassis, gold contacts also.

Here are a few places I have found

I can get Neutrik 7 pins to any U.S. folks that are wanting them ( from The Place Of My Day Gig ) Some look cheaper than the Amps at Digikey...

NC7FX: $6.59
NC7MX: $4.79
NC7FD-L-1: $10.75
NC7MD-L-1: $8.05

I am getting some for my G7s and can make it a group order if anybody's interested.

I'm sure you can get the 7pin amphenol at digikey...

UP because I'm wondering what my choices are for replacing an XLR 3pin male connector in an existing microphone (say an MXL 2001) with a 5 or 7 pin connector?

Do I have to buy a $16 Switchcraft panel mount connector just to get something with a set screw?

Thanks!

Yes, you do need to get the Switchcraft if you need to have an insert with a set screw. Neutrik connectors don't have this feature which makes them useless for the connector in the base of the mike. Here is a place I found the Switchcraft fairly cheaply. The silver contact model is $10.19 and they actually have them in stock. Gold is a couple of bucks more.

Note that this insert is slightly shorter than the Alctron 7 pin male insert so the engaging hole needs to be in a different position. Otherwise, they seem to work nicely and interchangeably with the Alctrons (and I would assume the Neutriks also).

Thank you! One more question: Does it have to be a panel mount, or can I steal the same part from just a regular 5 pin XLR male cable end?
