I have a preamp here that needs new gain pots, the ones in it are AB 1 meg, marked U-1-MEG then 70-M1N043R105U
Does anyone know the codes to tell me what taper this is? My analog VOM is broken.....
Kind of an interesting preamp, reputed to sound good. It was made by EDS Sound Labs (I have no knowledge of them), they guy who I am fixing it for said he is no longer with us. It uses a total of 4 transistors, one looks to be a JFET. Maybe I should reverse it..

If you pulled it, you could test resistance at the "halfway point." A linear should have 50% of the resistance, a rev log about 80% and a log one should be less than 50%.  Check a graph to make sure I didn't mix this up.

edit... just read the broken VOM part... yeah, ok, I need coffee.

Simple brilliance (as in, why didn't I think of that?) mitsos... my DMM is a working, and confirms that it is linear. I usually use the analog meter as it is very easy to see the taper as you move the pot through it's rotation.....
Did Clarostat take over the Mod Pot production from AB? They certianly look very similar...

thanks for the replies!

Also, you can usually find allen bradley codes here  http://raise.rockwellautomation.com/catalog/_0.asp?onKil=http://www.ab.com/raise
(i do a lot of allen bradley PLC programming).  I looked really quick and couldn't find the pots but i know they are there somewhere.  I think under push buttons.

rock on
