what kind of tube is this

O.k.  so was working on a fender amp. The pre amp tube was a 12ax7 sovtek.  Clear as day, fender put their own brand name on it along with the groove tubes logo and the gt-12ax7.  They didn;t even bother to remove the sovtek stamp.

 
Yeah, the OEM Fender tubes are Sovteks.  GT basically sorts, tests, and selects batches and ships them to Fender.  IIRC the silk-screening is a different color than what GT normally uses, too.

I hear that is all GT does. Just sorts, tests and relabels. They do not make their own tubes. Is that true?
 
yes, it's always been true.  They are/were a service/sales organization in regard to tubes. 
 
  I've seen the same tubes Pucho.  Sovtek, Fender, and GT all printed on top of one another.
