Over the course of the past few years of doing a half ass job of trying to keep my 1.5TB of crap in order on a few of my harddrives, I have started undergoing the tedious task of sorting through all of my E-Books and other useless information while backing everything up from .ISO>.RAR to "via" DVD discs.  Another "compulsive" side-effect from DIYing, e.t.c

I swear, I cant think of anything "geekier" than this....archiving/organizing my "virtual" libary.

Anyone else ever undergone this task as well??  If so, care to comment on some of your "strategies"??  Sadly I am not a master programmer so thus I cannot "automate" my work.

Cheers,

Hard drives are so cheap these days that a 2 TB library should be mirrored to another drive at the very least.  AND backed to DVD in case KJI's nukes take a wrong turn going towards Seattle or LA.  The EMP effect on electronics and magnetic storage will be quite the bother.

More to the point, I usually add tag words to the title of archival material, ie. comp, tube, urei, hottie, etc. so that a title search is sufficient to find something.

PS: Have you even looked at half of the actual contents of those 1.5TB?

They haven't been able to miniaturize their nukes.  They are still huge truck sized devices.  Give em a couple of years to make them small enough to fit on a rocket.

In the other case, use a UPS and ground your computer case right to earth and don't worry about your EMP..   ;D

I'm still surviving on 100Gb.  Once I get back to recording a lot I suppose I'll bump it up to 1TB.

I make reaper do the hard work for me by setting it up to create a new folder everytime I start a new project.  I just take those folders and copy them to another HDD and span them onto DVDs as well.  I just set aside a single day to do this.

As far as my play computer, I try to keep everything in it's place in the first place and then just span the folder across DVDs.  This consists of having a single folder for personal files/folders/data with multiple folders inside like "picture/movies/PDFs/audio gear/porn/etc"  I don't bother with window's "my documents" and such.  This way if I even get a hint of danger I can back this stuff up in a hurry.

If you're unorganized to my extent
there's multiple copies cause i'm just not sure  , in case

there's a forced purging as i forget things and they get buried
you're better men than i , good luck on that all
