So what is the difference between these two families of faders aside from the length options?  Is there one considered to be better than the other?  While price searching, I assumed the 8000 would be more expensive (higher series # means better right?! :p).  But after seeing prices for either 100mm or 104mm faders on www.audiomaintenance.com, the 8000's are consistently much cheaper than the 3000.  I don't believe that the extra 4mm of length is making that much of a difference.

So what's their story?

The 8000 series is designed to compete with Alps in the market of lower cost cp-faders. It is mechanically and pin compatible with 100mm Alps cp-fader.

I would recommend the 8000 series. Or Alps, it is cheaper that P&G and there is no difference in practice. If the brand is important to you, then choose P&G.

The 3000 series has slightly stronger construction but it has tendency to get stuck when it comes old.
